Beyond Traditional Borders

Posted in Non-profit by John Carrithers on July 23, 2009

This is the completed film that I directed and co-edited to raise funds for Rice University’s program Beyond Traditional Borders. The program allows students to try to address global health issues first hand by placing Rice students at Baylor Pediatric AIDS clinics all around Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to directing and co-editing the piece, I traveled to Swaziland and Lesotho and shot all of the footage on-location. The piece is being used to raise funds and student involvement in the program.

Additional Credits:
Studio Director of Photography: John Sheeren
Post Audio: Christopher Bourque
Co-Editors: John Gremillion and Chris Nelson
Line Producer(Africa): Delicia Harvey

Green Building

Posted in Non-profit by John Carrithers on March 5, 2008

This is a video I shot and edited for the University of Houston. It’s about architects and industrial designers getting together to design sustainable building components.

Because of a very limited budget I really shot this on the run, working with existing lighting in each environment. It was interesting to go into a space cold with only a few minutes to set up and find the best shot with what I had to work with. I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out considering the amount of interviews and only a couple days to edit. It’s amazing what a guy can pull off these days with a camera and a wireless lav as a crew of one.

Shot with an EX1, Letus Extreme and Nikon lenses. Edited in FCP.
